Online Paid Surveys: Are They Really Worth Your Time?

When it comes to online paid surveys, it’s definitely not about financial freedom! Hey, I get it, who doesn’t want to make some extra cash in their spare time? Let’s face it, lots of people can do with the extra cash, but are online paid surveys the way to go?

Here’s why I’m asking the question. A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of writing some reviews for a fellow online entrepreneur. Some of the reviews centered on some of the paid online surveys out there. I reviewed Valued Opinions, MindsPay, SurveySpot and a few others.

My conclusion on the matter?

Paid online surveys are not the best way to invest your time. Spending all that time for beer money or reward points for gift cards and other trinkets, just ain’t my scene. Especially when I know that there are so many better opportunities out there from which you can make so much more money.

About Online Paid Surveys

Now I am not disputing that people make money from online surveys. But even with the best and highest paid online surveys, it certainly isn’t something to quit your job over.

The financial rewards are often small and aren’t equal to the time invested. In some cases you’ve got to do quite a bit of surveys to accumulate reward points just get a payout of $25.00. That’s if $25.00 is the minimum payout and if you’re being rewarded with cash.

Added to that, there’s the qualification process you have to go through and sometimes this can be like taking the actual survey. Worst yet, after you’ve spent all that time trying to qualify for the survey, you get a disqualification notice. Arrgghhh! You just wasted at least 30 minutes.

In some cases, you don’t even get rewarded for being disqualified. I know you survey takers out there know exactly what I’m talking about. If that isn’t a turn off, the abundance of complaints are enough to dissuade a person from doing online paid surveys.

Online Paid Surveys Complaints

As legitimate as online paid surveys may be, there have been complaints ranging from account being closed to the lack of customer service from the provider. Check out some of the other common complaints.

Still waiting for a survey

Signed up a few weeks ago, but haven’t received a survey since. That’s because surveys are based on demographics and if your demographics don’t fit the criteria being sought after, then you’re not going to get a survey. You’ll just have to wait.

Credits or points not issued for completed surveys

This could happen for various reasons, such as errors in third party reporting, or even improper browser setting. But there really is no guarantee that you’ll receive payment for a completed survey. Oops.

Still waiting for payment or requested rewards

Some people have complained that requested rewards or payments take longer than promised.

Now if this is the kind of frustration you’re willing to put up with for beer money and gift cards, then by all means knock yourself out. I sincerely wish you all the best in your endeavors. But if you’re tired of it all and you are looking for a better work at home opportunity, then let’s dig in.

  1. Great Post, I actually have tried paid surveys back when I first started online. I have to say it not one of my preferred method of earning some extra income online but it does work, granted if you find legitimate offers. In my experience niche blogging and affiliate marketing are the best and most legitimate ways to make money online. It can be hard at first, but it mostly a patience game and if you stay the course the rewards can be endless.

    Great Post,

    1. Hey Robert

Thanks for dropping by. Good to know you like the article. I agree with you. Surveys are okay, but my preference is also affiliate marketing even Ecommerce, since you can make much more money with those options. Surveys take up way too much time and that time could have been invested much better for greater returns in the long run. These opportunities can also help you replace your wretched 9 to 5, especially if you don’t like it.

  2. I think if I see another “make money taking fun surveys” ad again I’m going to go nuts. There is NOTHING fun about these MIND NUMBING surveys, lol. They are always the most tedious and time wasting things you could ever do. And after all the time you put into one, the pennies they give you in return. Big fat no to this one.

    1. Hi Eric

I absolutely agree with you. Online paid surveys really aren’t a good use of anyone’s time. The company gets the information they’re looking for but you get a very small rewards; pennies as you mentioned, for the valuable information you’ve given to them. You’re much better off using the time to build your own online business, which would give you way better financial returns that a survey ever would.

  3. Hello here. I think that online surveys bring enormous profits to owners but not for people who answer questions and waste most precious asset: the time.
I tried few of them and was disappointed. They do not pay in a decent way. Getting 5 dollars per half hour survey is joke. Of course it is better as nothing.
Maybe for somebody would be good income, who knows. I express here just my opinion.
All the best, be healthy and wealthy, Nemira.

    1. Hi Nemira

You’ve got a point there. The individuals who are on the receiving end of the information, really are profiting immensely, since they’re getting the information they are looking for to improve their products and services. The administrators probably do just as well.

But when you consider having to spend all that time giving others the information they need and not being appropriately rewarded for it, I think you’re better off investing your time in something more worthwhile. That’s why I prefer to have my own online business. This way I can determine my own paycheck.

  4. Hi Vanessa,

I totally agree with you. Online surveys are not a very good way to utilize your time in order to make money. I am constantly researching and trying out new ways of making money. I have spent hours a day on doing surveys only to receive very little money. You can earn way more by getting a day job.

    1. Hey Melanie

Online paid surveys really aren’t a good way to utilize your time. It might work for some people but even so the rewards aren’t equal to the time invested. Let’s not talk about the frustration some people experience getting disqualified even after they’ve invested about 20 minutes into the survey.

As you suggested even a day job is better. But a much better way, is utilizing that same time you’re investing in doing online surveys, into your own online business. Way better rewards there. Rewards that would allow you to quit your job eventually. How’s that for a plan? Pretty cool I’d say.

  5. I really don’t like online surveys. The few that I could join (my country was restricted from many of them) were hardly worth it. You end up spending huge amounts of time doing surveys for very little reward. There are much better ways to earn money, as you have said.

    1. Hi Lesley

That’s the way these surveys go. You spend an inordinate amount of time just to earn points to redeem for rewards which are often small in comparison. I’d encourage anyone to make a wiser choice and invest their time in something more worthwhile, like having their own online business. This way you can determine the amount of money you make.

  6. Good website and you explained the true essence on starting a legit work from home business. I think we all have done online surveys for money once in our life and it can be tough. You can answer one question that the survey form may not like and automatically you do not qualify for the completion of the survey. I hate when that happens and that made me not even want to do online surveys for money anymore. Starting your own online business is the new wave and you pointed that out very well on your website Vanessa.

    1. Hi Martin

Thanks for dropping by. You know as inviting as some of these paid online surveys may look, it does not mean that you’ll get a whole bunch of them to make that extra cash that you really want. There is that one question that’s there that if you don;t answer it correctly, you will get disqualified from the survey. So there goes the time you just invested and you’ve got nothing to show for it. Added to that, the rewards you get certainly aren’t about financial freedom. That being the situation, you’re much better off starting your own online business.
